The official Yes On 26 FAQ says that “Personhood would not end in-vitro fertilitization”. So why do we say it will?
The simple answer is that 26 imposes restrictions which will regulate IVF out of existence here in Mississippi, even if nothing ever says that “IVF is illegal”.
Yes On 26 says in an official list of discussion points:
If the amendment passes, human experimentation on embryos will end along with the practice of
freezing embryos. IVF labs will limit the number of egg(s) fertilized to the number of embryos
they are willing to transfer in a single cycle
The medical realities of IVF mean that these two restrictions would end physicians’ ability to perform IVF in Mississippi.
RESOLVE: the National Infertility Association strongly opposes Initiative 26 because of the unacceptable consequences for infertility treatment, as do the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology.

I have been waiting for 11 years to be financially able to go through IVF. My time has come and now I hear about Initative 26. Seeing as how it is November, I probably will not have a chance to go through a cycle of IVF if 26 passes. What are woman that can’t get pregant without IVF and want to carry their own baby supposed to do if this passes? Please vote no on 26!!
