Birth Control

Would Initiative 26 open the door to prohibiting many common forms of birth control? The simple answer is yes.

Yes On 26′s own website makes it clear that IUDs are incompatible with personhood. Presumably this would also extend to women who already have IUDs in place, since the violation of personhood is caused by the existence of the IUD, not by the insertion process.

Hormonal birth control is a more complicated issue. All forms of hormonal birth control can potentially prevent implantation, which Yes On 26 claims is incompatible with personhood.

It should be noted that prominent members of the Yes On 26 Advisory Board, and Personhood Colorado, have quite explicitly stated that they consider hormonal contraceptives to be “chemical abortifacients” and that “they do in fact cause abortions”.

I believe god is the only one to judge us and whether or not a person wants an abortion is their own choice. I can’t believe that the people that are voting yes would make a girl/women have a child of a rapist, do they not know how many psychological problems that would cause an individual. How can they call a women who has an abortion a murderer. There are criminals walking as free people who have committed murders an women who have abortions should NOT HAVE THE SAME LABEL AS A MURDERER! I don’t see how these yes voters can’t see how wrong it is to let the law have control over these issues, these yes voters need to think what if it was their child in this situation of rape, that child is going to grow up with resentment, I know I would if my parents were ones voting yes an something were to happen. Lawmakers should stay OUT of these issues. These issues are a women’s choice to do what’s right in their mind and god should be the only one judging.

Beyond the issue of choice and privacy is the absolutely clear violation of the first amendment and the freedom of religion. I am a Christian, although probably in a looser sense than most in this state. My church preaches that to be a Christian, one must believe in Jesus and in the sacrifice of his life for the forgiveness of our sins. My church also teaches that we are not to judge others, lest we be judged. Quit judging my choice to not have children as not being “Christian”. Children are a gift from God when they are wanted. There are more children in foster care within our state eligilbe for adoption than there are adoptive parents. The government should stay out of my uterus, my doctor’s office and my church!

One thing that I see lacking in this fight against this vague bill is that birth control isn’t just for preventing pregnancy. I have endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Without the various methods of birth control I would have had to have had my hysterectomy earlier and wouldn’t have the extended time to be able to have my two beautiful girls.
